On Mother’s Birthday

by Victor Pearn

Some serene evening

sun awash with colorful

clouds in an Asian sunset, too many

students were writing about Huck Finn.

In the back of the room

my wife wrote a letter, or

sometimes she knitted.

I have gone a long way

searching for felicity.

Chinese Folk Dancing

by Victor Pearn

Incredible feminine dancers

with thousands of arms floating up

became a living pink lotus blossom.

Dancing underneath the moonlight

was fun beside the Confucius Wall

where flashing neon lights shaped

a one-horse-power chariot with wheels

spinning backwards, and where

my wife Summer and I folk danced to

traditional jade flute music

at apricot harvest.
