Down to the rivers of gold

by Christina Murphy

Down to the rivers of gold

in autumn light once green

with promise, we will bring

our hearts to the fading season

of youthful light lost in regret

Everything heads to conclusion:

carefree, unaware, and gripped

in dying; it is the passage, the weight,

the heartís burden of knowing loss

and the soulís requisite of forgiveness

Better dreams shall hold us soft

in the mercy of remembranceó

the green to gold, the gold to silence

the currents of the river moving us on

to the changes that hold our fate
