Day-to-Day

by Richard Luftig

She deals with each moment

by living the best she can,

that is to say, simply

by staying alive and trying

to wait out each memory

that will not answer to

any name she tries

to attach to it. They

are more like those

invisible currents

that connects the moon

to the ocean or the just

out of focus faces

behind the wind, that

if she is lucky, might

ease by late morning,

recessing almost unnoticed

like a lost sea-borne fog.
