CORPSES

by Michael Brownstein

Keep in mind sound has a way to travel

and blood lights are not always blood red.

Remember the flash of grey matter and dust can

also be firecrackers, one finger, a shard of bone.

We watch the parade of sparklers and flame

burst loud across the break in the river.

The capitol bathes itself in white, the spectacle

riding over it, a flag on fire, a flag in rain,

and the river, ah, yes, the river…
